The sensors in Carv 2 are collecting gyroscope and accelerometer data as you ski.
These data are sent via Bluetooth to your phone in real time, where they are used to create an accurate motion capture of each boot. Your phone can then analyze this to create a highly accurate picture of your skiing.
The Carv then looks for common technique patterns based on the motion of your feet - turning your skiing into personalized coaching.
No. Carv works completely offline while you ski.
The sensors connect to your phone via low-energy Bluetooth, and all technique analysis and coaching happen directly in the app.
When you’re back online, your runs automatically upload to the cloud and leaderboard — but that’s entirely optional.
Carv 2 is built on Motion AI technology. We were able to make the power of Motion AI reverse compatible with the sensors in previous insert systems - so Carv 1 will have all of the same accuracy and all-terrain benefits of Carv 2.
They will both run the Ski:IQ Nevado software.
Carv 2 can do all of this, without any inserts in the boot, with USB-C charging and can be moved between boots with ease.
Ski:IQ™ is a measure used to assess your skiing ability. This year* Carv calculates Ski:IQ™ using machine learned weightings of the 10 performance metrics which allows Carv to adjust which metrics to prioritise in your score, based on your skiing, the pitch and the terrain.
Different runs, and different skiers, may have different metric weightings used to calculate your Ski:IQ™, ensuring that our coaching is relevant to your level, and the terrain you’re skiing.
* These features will be available in the Carv app beginning November 5th 2024
No - Carv 2 learns its position automatically on your strap. You just need to keep your strap tight to stop it moving around while you ski.
